Another joint effort with Romancing the Stones, Hurricane 2024 was the Falling Stars’ third Old School constructed event, and it was once again a huge success. First of all, a huge thanks to all of you for coming out to Rudyard’s to play some Old School Magic with us this weekend! Lots of old cardboard (and a few proxies) were slung over the course of the weekend. We could not have had the success that we had without you showing up to enjoy some vintage cardboard in the company of folks that love doing the same thing. A special shout-out to those that travelled from Austin, San Antonio, Oklahoma and Colorado! The turnout for Old School (45 players!) was fantastic, and the turnout for vintage was also a very healthy 27 players.
For the out of town folks who flew in. As you can clearly see I am no artist so sorry for that. Please reach out if you want to help alter some of the prizes for next year, that’s something really out of my wheelhouse!
Thanks to everyone that donated to the prize pool and the raffles that we did on Saturday! My call for additional prize cards to stamp was also answered, so stay tuned to see those cards coming back with stamps on them at our next events in Austin and Houston. We gave away an boatload of Magic-related memorabilia (most of it to Patrick and Ben) and everyone walked away with something to remember the weekend. Thanks to the generous support of our attendees, we raised $2116 for the Houston Food Bank!
The event is really a whirlwind of emotions and quite draining but getting to send this money to our local charity really puts a big smile on my face and makes me proud of the little community we have created.
Special thanks to everyone else that put forth effort to make sure we all had a great time. All your donations and time are much appreciated.
