Hurricane 2022 Results

A joint effort with Romancing the Stones, Hurricane 2022 was the Falling Stars’ first Old School constructed event, and by all accounts it was a rousing success. First of all, a huge thanks to everyone who came out to Rudyard’s to play Old School Magic with us this weekend! We literally could not have had the successful event that we had without you showing up to enjoy slinging some old cardboard with folks that love doing the same thing. A special shout-out to those that travelled from Austin, San Antonio, other far-flung cities and towns, and even as far away as California!

The turnout (31 players!) was fantastic, and not only made for a diverse field, but also ensured a substantial donation to our charity of choice, the Houston Food Bank. All told, we ended up raising $1,000 to help keep Houstonians from going hungry.

Thanks to everyone that donated to the prize pool—if you didn’t walk away with at least a signed card, then you missed out! We love signed cards because they remind us of past good times when we play them in future games.

Special thanks to Winston for stamping a bunch of cards, Bonnie for the awesome miniature javelins, painting, and coin trays, Brian Tweedy for the sick poster, Stu for coordinating the Vintage event, and everyone else that put forth effort to make sure we all had a great time.

And of course, congrats to our 2022 Summer Hurricane Old School Champion, Andy Swaffar! Andy came out on top after beating our only undefeated player heading into Round 6, Jason Smart, and then besting top seed David London in the winner-take-all Finals.
